holes in clay

I am a first time user of Kolner Burnishing Clay to be used with Colnasize. I have applied several coats and at each coat, the surface looks wonderful but suddenly a multitude of pinholes appear randomly. I blow on them and they pop only to return a moment later. As the clay dries, I can blow on them and they seem not to return, but a dimple remains. I have tried filling that with a dab of clay and so far it looks ok. I tested a small spot by brunishing and got a beautiful burnished surface. My fear is that when I add the liquor the bubbles will reappear. Any solution to this problem or other troubleshooting? Can you describe more about the application. What is the surface upon which you are applying the Kolner Burnishing Clay? What is the local environment like? Hot and humid? Cold and dry? Did you stir the clay before using? Did you add water?

I had prepared a gessoed board made with traditional gesso (glue, alabaster and chalk), sanded it smooth and applied the bole mixed with water to a creamy puddle consistency. I puddled on about five layers. Here it is cool and damp. I did stir the clay and added water. I'm not sure of the amount, but enough to make it a thick cream perhaps.

We have seen when there is something in the ground that causes the release of air bubbles or possibly the gilding base has entrained air.
