I need some advice about silver point/ metal point drawing. I'm new to this art form,and I've read the directions in the intro kit ,and now what metalpoints are for what type of support, with what ground on it for best result.How am I to use "aqueous dispersions" for color? They seem to be very concetrated and a small amt. goes along way. Some Artists write about oxidative solutions used to speed up their darkening of their metalpt drawings..which are they speaking of??Thankyou for letting me post a couple of questions and I really am looking forward to some "masters" at this art form for help.. You can add a few drops of aqueous pigment dispersions to the silverpoint ground, stir it in, and then apply to the ground to the paper or board for a tinted ground.

    Some artists have placed their drawings in a box or bag with an open jar of liver of sulfur (potassium trisulfide or sulfuretted potash) and left it there to hasten oxidation.

    Thankyou for your help, now my next question is, which metal pts. do you use for which effects or types of drawings?

    Each of the metalpoints make marks of different tones and qualities:

    All metalpont strokes originally appear gray to dark gray with slight variances in the color temperature (cool gray to warm gray), but after some years, you can observe the following effects:

    </font>

Silverpoint strokes turn grayish brown.</font>
Copperpoint strokes turn yellowish-gray and become lighter in value.</font>
Brasspoint strokes turn grayish-yellow and become lighter in value.</font>
Bronzepoint strokes turn warm gray and become light in value.</font>
Lead and lead alloys display no observable color or value change.</font>
Aluminumpoint strokes display no observable color or value change.</font>
Steelpoint strokes display no observable color or value change.</font>
