“I’ve used paint of nearly all artist grade brands but only when I discovered Rublev Colours Artist Oils I realized that paint can actually make the difference and compliment the skill and endeavor of the painter.”
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Arthur Gain is a Russian figurative artist currently based in Spain, near Barcelona. Though widely self-taught he attended workshops and took private tuition from internationally renowned painters and teachers.
His path to become an artist was not direct. Being a passionate draftsman since childhood, he had made a successful career as a commercial illustrator and graphic designer in his youth, in his twenties he had become creative director in advertisement industry working for major international clients. In his early thirties he moved from Moscow to Asia and began a journey of self discovery through practice of traditional authentic Yoga and Buddhist meditation which finally lead him to realization that representational art is his true vocation. Nowadays he continues to develop his craft as an artist and shares his knowledge and approach by teaching painting in Barcelona Academy of Art, giving workshops and private lessons and by making online instructional videos. His works are acclaimed in various competitions and exhibitions such as ARC International Salon, ModPortrait, BoldBrush and others.
In the modern world where everything changes in a blink of an eye, the human spirit and nature is what brings it back together to the core of our existence. Constantly evolving and at the same time being utmost archaic, simultaneously mundane and divine, human consciousness is the greatest mystery and endless source of inspiration. Thus Arthur finds his main interest in people bringing out the unique characters of each individual he portrays with his art.
ARTHUR GAIN ON RUBLEV COLOURS
I used to paint with pigments of nearly all artist grade brands but only when I’ve discovered Rublev Colours Artist Oil paints I realized that paint can actually make the difference and compliment skill and endeavor of the painter. One of the most exciting discoveries is Vermillion which is crucial for mixing skin tones especially when mixed with the Lead White No 1. Besides of great variety of Rublev Colours I constantly use other essential products such as mediums (my favorites are Oleogel and Walnut Oil Gel) and grounds (I use Lead Alkyd Ground).
The core of my palette consists of:
Lead White # 1
Antica Green Earth
Blue Ridge Yellow Ocher
Cyprus Raw Umber Light
Nereides, oil on panel, 72 x 53 cm
Echoes, oil on panel, 72 x 54 cm
Wotan, oil on panel, 30 x 40 cm
Premonition, oil on panel, 50 x 60 cm
