Synthetic Kolinsky Flat Watercolor Brush

Kolibri brushes are handmade in Germany by Feurer & Sohn, one of the oldest brush manufacturers in Germany (established 1898). They are made by dedicated brush makers, using the highest quality hair. These Kolibri watercolor brushes are made with special synthetic hair to produce a brush that holds paint exceptionally well.

"Martisan Kolinsky" brushes are made from a new mixture of synthetic hair. Different diameters and different lengths of hair guarantee high elasticity. The unique surface of the hair shaft in conjunction with the brush body assures high color capacity. The life of these brushes surpass that of natural hair brushes, especially when working on rough surfaces."Martisan Kolinsky" brushes are available in different shapes: Rounds, Brights, Filberts and Fan Blenders, with short handles and with long handles.

Silver-Plated Brass Ferrules

The ferrule of each Kolibri Martisan Kolinsky brush receives two deep crimps. Deep crimping compresses the walls of the ferrule into the wooden handle, creating a mechanical lock that securely fastens the ferrule to the handle.

Hardwood Handles

The short black polished handles are made of hardwood and are lacquer finished for long life. Only the best brush handles are dipped. They are made by lowering the handles first in primer, then twice in colored lacquer and finally in varnish—a total of four coats—for a lustrous durable finish.
