The hard inner surface is unglazed allowing you to easily abrade nearly any material to the degree of fineness that you need. Do not use to crush stones or extremely hard materials. Mortar and pestles are best used to grind small granular materials into finer granularity.

Use and Care Instructions
Place the item to be ground or crushed in the mortar.
Work the pestle with a downward pushing motion in a circular pattern.
Keep a firm grip on the pestle and be sure not to use excessive force.
Wash porcelain mortar and pestle with warm water and detergent or soap.
