Cadmium Yellow Light Watercolor Paint | Rublev Colours
A bright primrose yellow with a cool undertone, Cadmium Yellow Light watercolor delivers strong coverage and rich tinting power. This opaque pigment maintains excellent lightfastness and performs reliably in washes and mixtures.
Cadmium Yellow Light is made from cadmium zinc sulfide, a synthetic inorganic pigment produced by co‑precipitating cadmium sulfide with zinc sulfide. Cadmium pigments were first suggested in the early nineteenth century and commercially produced by the 1840s to supply artists with a stable range of yellows, oranges, and reds. Cadmium yellow pigments are lightfast, chemically stable, and valued for their vivid color and high tinting strength. The lighter shades, such as this primrose yellow, contain zinc sulfide to shift the hue toward a cooler, lemony tone.
In watercolor, Cadmium Yellow Light provides opaque coverage with strong saturation. It creates clean, intense mixes and retains vibrancy in glazes. The pigment’s finely milled particles disperse evenly, producing a smooth wash with moderate granulation. Because cadmium compounds can be hazardous if ingested or inhaled, use care when handling the dry pigment and avoid creating airborne dust. Finished watercolors, however, present minimal exposure risk when used as intended.

Notes: Rublev Colours watercolors are milled from pure pigments in gum arabic with traditional humectants. No fillers, dispersants, brighteners, or preservatives are added. The color shown is scanned in mass tone and in tints; monitor settings may affect the hue you see. Due to cadmium content, avoid ingesting or creating dust from the dry pigment.
