This set of Basic Geometric Shapes is great for studying the tonal values (highlights, shadows and half tints) of simple shapes in drawing and painting. This set is ideal for teaching perspective, beginning still life, and tonal drawing and painting. They are excellent for classroom or studio use. Included in this five piece set is a cone, sphere, cylinder, cube and dodecahedron (a regular polyhedron with twelve flat faces, also called a Platonic solid), accurately cast in brilliant white plaster. Each basic shape measures almost six inches wide with the cone and cylinder standing about 8 inches tall.
Cone measures 8-1/2 inches high and a base diameter of 5-1/2 inches;
Sphere 5-1/2 inches in diameter;
Cylinder is 8 inches high and is 4-1/4 inches in diameter;
Cube is 5-1/2 inches in all dimensions;
Dodecahedron (twelve-sided shape) is 6-1/2 inches in all dimensions.
Traditionally, cast drawing has provided an excellent way for the study of proportions, shape relationships and the effect of light and shadows. Once the plaster casts are set up, they remain in place and can be drawn session after session in the same position and lighting condition. Plaster casts are ideal for drawing using the sight-size method or the triangulation method, another form of measuring, to reproduce shapes and relationships accurately.
