It is difficult to say because there may be other factors involved. We have not seen this with our pigments in linseed oil.

I was interested in trying Smalt in oil. I tried both Smalt and Royal smalt from Rublev and Smalt from Kremer. I used aged refined linseed oil to make the paint. In all cases I observed strange behavior; the paint dried quite fast, but after approximately a day it started to be sticky on surface. When I pressed a finger against the paint layer, no paint came off, but I felt stickiness of the paint layer. I haven't experienced something like this with any other pigment. Any idea, what might have happened?
