I have purchased and used the Rembrandt Stil de Grain Jaune as a substitute for Indian Yellow. I have found it to be a very bright color compared to the Indian Yellow from other companies.

Companies offering stil de grain today do not use the authentic pigment, but rather a mixture of pigments to imitiate the color. This can be verified by looking at the back of the tube for the Colour Index numbers of the pigments in the tube. We do not think the colors are identical because of this reason. Stil de grain brun is mentioned in the article as red-brown.

Your topic on Stil de Grain was interesting. How close to the original are Rembrandte Stil de Grain Jaune?

I notice that in addition to Rembrant there are a few other companies that make a Stil de Grain Brun. I notice you did not mention that color. Was it around in earlier days or is it a newer Color?

Thanks

Judy
