Mars Brown oil paint is a deep reddish brown with a subtle purple cast in masstone. More than Mars brown, this pigment has a chemical makeup similar to that of natural yellow ochers and brown umbers. Since this deep brown is modified with a certain amount of manganese oxide, it displays excellent stability and lightfastness.

Some separation of pigment and oil may occur in Rublev Colours Artist Oils, and it is a natural process when no wax or stabilizers are added to the paint to prevent it.
