It is beneficial for novices and excellent for problem-solving by experienced gilders. It covers every aspect of gilding in-depth, with chapters on materials, surface preparation, oil gilding, gesso, water gilding, and special techniques. She has effectively illustrated with concise drawings. This book provides detailed descriptions and explanations of the traditional oil- and water-based gilding methods in a way that another artisan can follow. Like any skill, gilding requires practice, but if the well-tried methods are followed, and the would-be gilder is prepared to use more leaf than the professional, they should be able to produce satisfactory results.
