Orange Travertine – Warm Earth Oil Paint
Orange Travertine is a warm orange earth oil paint derived from natural travertine with increased iron content, providing earthy orange tones and a semi‑opaque body for subtle warmth and glazing.
Orange Travertine oil paint is milled from a travertine pigment with a higher iron‑oxide content than Yellow Travertine, giving it a warm orange tint. Travertine is a sedimentary limestone deposited from mineral‑rich springs; the Romans used it and took its name from lapis tiburtinus (Tivoli Stone). In this Armenian deposit, the travertine contains calcium carbonate (~48 %) and small amounts of iron oxide, silica, sulfur, and alumina. Ground to a mean particle size of about 8 µm, the pigment is easy to disperse in oil and provides excellent permanence because the colourant is iron oxide.
In paint, Orange Travertine has medium tinting strength and a semi‑opaque body. It tints warm, earthy oranges with a gentle drying rate, making it suitable for glazing or underpainting. The colour adds subtle warmth to landscapes and flesh tones while maintaining the natural, mineral character that many artists seek today.
