A triad is a set of three pigments that mix broadly without turning muddy. Our triads pair earth and mineral colors
so you can mix believable light, middle, and shadow families with minimal guesswork.
Why three?
Two colours set the mood; the third nudges temperature and deepens value.

Triad FAQs
What is a watercolor triad?
A triad is a set of three pigments chosen to mix broadly without turning muddy. Ours pair earth and mineral colors so you can create believable light, middle, and shadow families with minimal guesswork.
Are the pigments single-pigment and lightfast?
Yes. We focus on single-pigment earths and mineral blues with excellent permanence. See each triad’s Technical Specs for ASTM lightfastness and transparency.
How do I pick a triad?
Choose the palette that matches your scene: Autumn Orchard for warm foliage, Golden Fields for wheat/olive/sky, Coastal Breeze for shoreline neutrals, Desert Dusk for warm light and cool shade, and Forest Floor for mossy greens and understory neutrals.
Do I need mediums or special paper?
No special mediums required. Cold-press or rough papers enhance natural granulation; hot press yields smoother passages. Use clean water and a limited mixing area for clarity.
What are “Companion Colors”?
Recommended single pigments that expand each triad—deepen shadows, cool skies, or add botanical notes—while keeping mixes natural. Look for the Companion section on each triad page.
Can I mix these with other brands?
Yes. These are traditional pigments that behave predictably with standard watercolor ranges. For the most natural results, keep mixes to two colors; add the third only to nudge temperature or value.
