PETER CHAN ON RUBLEV COLOURS

Natural Pigment's Rublev Colours have been one of the best options for oil paints on my every day palette. Over the years, I’ve become more particular with my use of pigments and materials. Rublev Colours paints have been one of my top picks due to the amount of their high quality pigments packed in each tube. I’ve always preferred oil paints with less fillers so that I can get the most out of my mixes.

When I first discovered Rublev Colours, it was due to my research for historical pigments that historical master painters used. I was very curious if I could find the pigments that painters like Vermeer or Velasquez used in the past, upon googling for paints such as Lazurite and Madder Lake for example, I’ve noticed that it is incredibly difficult to find these colours in the modern era. Thankfully, this brand is able to reproduce these colours using the same pigments.

As a painter, I am one who is a bit obsessed with white paints. I love experimenting with whites as I use it a lot in my paintings. I burn through a lot of Lead White paints and its one of the first ‘colour’ I’ve started using from this brand.

I’ve also recently discovered Oleogel and its really growing on me, I love using it on my palette especially when my colours tend to dry up a little on a second day or third day of painting. Oleogel allows me to reactivate these dryer paints. Its also been great to mix together with darker colours so that they can dry closer to their true value and colour instead of an unexpected ‘matte’ look.

I’m really thankful and grateful to have discovered Rublev Colours and am grateful to them for continually explore, research and produce these materials for us artists.
