In this workshop, Shawn will show students his working methods, with both class demonstration and one-on-one discussion. The foremost objective will be to emphasize the importance of traditional underpainting and why mastering this step will help the artist create more dynamic and successful finished work. With a solid underpainting in hand after day one, students will primarily work in the second day’s sessions with transparent oil pigments and glazing, painting, directly and indirectly, to build up to a nicely saturated final image. 

Shawn Krueger is an accomplished painter, nationally recognized as a Roycroft Master Artisan and a Signature Member of the American Tonalist Society. His saturated, often moody, landscape paintings have found homes with dozens of private collectors throughout the United States. Six of the artist’s paintings have recently been acquired by the Michigan House of Representatives for the permanent collection of the Capitol.
