Victoria Green Watercolor Paint | Rublev Colours
Victoria Green watercolor is a pale, cool green hue with low tinting strength and subtle granulation. This semi‑transparent color is non‑staining and easy to lift, making it ideal for glazing, botanical work, and soft landscape passages.
Victoria Green is based on calcium chromium silicate, a synthetic spinel pigment developed in the early twentieth century for ceramic glazes and artistic paints. Also known as vernalis or Victoria green garnet, the pigment results from calcining chromium oxide with silica and chalk at high temperatures. Its composition, 3CaO·Cr₂O₃·3SiO₂, produces a durable green with excellent chemical stability and lightfastness. Unlike chromium oxide green (PG17), Victoria Green (PG51) yields a much paler, grass‑green tint.
In watercolor, Victoria Green behaves as a semi‑transparent paint with low tinting strength and subtle granulation. It produces soft, cool green washes that are especially useful for glazing and delicate foliage. The pigment is non‑staining, so it lifts readily with water, and its gentle granulation adds natural texture without overpowering neighboring colors. Rublev Colours watercolors are made with only pigment, gum arabic, and traditional humectants, with no fillers or brighteners. This traditional approach preserves the unique working properties of each pigment and may allow some natural separation of binder and pigment in the pan.
