You may try Ceracolors on clear acrylic gesso, but it depends on the absorbency of the clear acrylic gesso. We have not tested it.

Ceracolors, as is true for all encaustic and wax paints, require rigid and absorbent surfaces for proper adhesion, such as wood, paper, acrylic ground, etc. Yuo can apply an acrylic ground to the surface of metal for adhesion.

George, would clear acrylic gesso work on the metal? I have never used that stuff.

The idea of Pictura Translucida is that the ground is metallic and reflective, so covering it with regular gesso (white) would totally defeat the purpose.

Thanks.

I'm interested in trying Pictura Translucida technique to see what extra visual depth can be added to the already wonderful Ceracolors.

Unsure of whether Ceracolor can adhere to a metal surface, such as a copper or aluminum plate (or even aluminum foil covered panel).

Can you advise? Is it possible or stupid? Does it need preparation (such as a coat of clear medium) or not?

Thanks.
